Y’all I am so excited to be sharing this beautiful wedding with you, it’s not every day you get to travel half way around the world to watch one of your most cherished friends marry her best friend. I was beyond honored when Isla trusted me with the task of designing their wedding stationery. As a creative, let me tell you, that this trust is one of the most rewarding feelings.
Invitations and stationery are your guests first impression of what your big day is going to be like – they are cherished pieces of artwork hung on loved one’s fridges, framed on walls, and placed in scrap books. It’s not just a piece of paper, it’s an heirloom. Creating the perfect invitation for Isla and Werner was rooted it what Eight Pepperberries is all about – to make life simple, beautiful, yours.
Isla and Werner got married on a perfect July day in a gorgeous vineyard along the South African coast. The moment you set foot in South Africa you are in awe of its raw beauty – the rolling mountains, the crashing ocean waves, it’s a place that makes you feel like you are at the edge of the world.
Isla and Werner had dreams of their wedding reflecting the union of two cultures – Isla is American and Werner is South African. They met while working in the yachting industry and have traveled the world together. Their invitations reflect their love of a bohemian lifestyle and sense of wanderlust, while being rooted in South Africa wildness. They wanted them to be warm and welcoming, nothing over the top, just down right fun.
Cranberry and navy took center stage and provided a rich warmth to this chill winter day. There’s something about winter weddings, people huddled together, the warm glow of the fire. The eucalyptus added a burst of earthiness; I was in floral heaven. And those gorgeous Proteas, they’re the national flower of South Africa.
The days leading to the wedding were filled with love and laughter – and some really amazing food and wine. Isla comes from a family of talented cooks, so it was no surprise that dinner was going to be a delicatable affair. Fresh local fish, juicy steaks, local wine – each bite was heavenly.
Even though the location, the food, and the atmosphere were all picture perfect it’s not what I will remember the most – it’s the company. Both Isla and Werner’s family are full of sincereity, love, and always up for a good time. From the laughter, to the speeches, to the hugs – Isla and Werner were surrounded by friends and family who love them dearly.
Cheers to Mr & Mrs Pauw!
