Spent most of the weekend working on #ep_littlegrayhouse stuff (check out my stories/highlights for updates!) & this boy had the time of his life helping us pick out landscaping. I had no clue what he was saying, but he would just walk from plant to plant babbling...maybe he was speaking kindly to them to help him grow? 🌿 Anyways, to say this boy loves the outside is an understatement; I saw him practically rolling in the grass at one point - we had to come home and change because he was covered in dirt 🙈😂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There are days when parenting is exhausting, you cry just as much as your child, and you feel a tad bit overwhelmed. But at the end of the day when you're holding your little tight, think of those beautiful moments sprinkled throughout the day. The smile he has as he taps his favorite stick around on the porch, the kisses he tries to distract you with in hopes of not getting a diaper change, his laugh when he feeds the dog her treat.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It can be so easy to get lost in the feeling of a few bad moments equating to a bad day. Most of the time I come to realize that those "bad" moments are usually because I've set my expectations too high. At the end of the day if you were to keep score, those sweet moments will always outweigh the sour ones 💕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1️⃣ My nickname/alter ego is Pepper, which inspired the name for the blog & shop. Eight is my lucky number, not the number of children I have - I had a person seriously ask me that once. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2️⃣ I'm a mama to the sweetest boy, Henry. He has been my greatest teacher and I've grown a lot as a person just by being his mama. You'll see his face a lot around here, he's just the cutest and I enjoy talking with others about motherhood. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3️⃣ I wear my hair up in a hot mess bun 99% of the time, but truly like my hair down with a little bit of curl. I have a lion mane so I have to be up for the task of taming it for the day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

4️⃣ My husband and I's fifth wedding anniversary is coming up in a few months & we'd love to go on a trip somewhere relaxing. There's always the usual spots like Mexico, a beach in Florida, or Hawaii. We're open to suggestions ;) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

About a year ago I sat in the corner of my bathroom, hands plastered over my ears, tears streaming down my face. The world was noisy, my tank was empty, and I felt like I didn’t have any control over my life. I was teeter-tottering on the edge of a breakdown. I felt an anger boiling up in me during a time that people kept telling me should be the happiest time of my life, I just had a baby the beginning of August after all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I didn’t understand why this was happening to me, but I knew deep down and had to face the truth: I was in the thick of postpartum depression. 🤱🏼⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every person has different reasons they make health changes. For me, navigating postpartum depression and discovering who I was after adding mama to my title, made me take a closer look on how important it is to treat my health in its entirety - mind, body, and soul.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I used to think that self care meant spa days or treating yo’ self. In reality it comes down to involving almost anything you can do to meet your emotional, physical, and mental needs. I know not everything is within my control, but if I can make healthy changes that will positively affect my family, it's worth fighting for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the biggest lessons I've learned this past year is that taking care of myself is one of the best gifts I can give myself and my family - my health is also for their sake!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Today on the blog I'm deeper into the topic of self care and giving you a handful of go to self care ideas that you can do in 5, 15, or 30 minutes a day at home.
