I have a slight obsession with paper. I’m always buying paper cards, notepads, and sticky notes…whatever paper good that inspires me. So naturally when I choose a journal I like it to be an aesthetic representation of myself and that will inspire me to write. Journals are arranged in a pretty display on a shelf in my living room integrating them in to my everyday life. This also serves as a visual reminder to use them. Bedside tables are also a great place to display your journal; I believe pretty little things shouldn’t be shoved in a drawer hidden from the world!
Where to Buy?
Now days you can find journals just about anywhere – TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Home Goods, Tuesday Morning, Anthropologie, Target and various online retailers. I am now the happy owner of a super cute Kate Spade “Penny For Your Thoughts” journal from TJ Maxx, and it came with an even happier price tag – $7.99! Compare that to the $24 retail price from Kate Spade and I was jumping for joy.
Here are some of my favorite online retailers:
- Paper Source – you can even personalize
- Rifle Paper Company
- Sugar Paper
- Day Designer for Blue Sky
- Declaration and Co
- Kate Spade

Think before you buy!
A journal aesthetically can be a representation of you, so choose one you love to look at. Also think about what purpose this journal will have. Is it going to be an art journal? Choose a notebook with no lines. Do you prefer spiral bound? Personally, I prefer spiral journals for note taking and journals that I use frequently (multiple times a day). Aesthetically I love the look of bound journals. What kind of cover do you prefer? Solid color, quotes, colorful, patterned, personalized, or has a drawing? There are so many options out there. Choose a journal that will inspire you to write.
Journals that inspire me
I’ve rounded up 9 journals that inspire me to write. I hope you are inspired too and make one of them your own!
