While some mark September as the start of football season (go Gators!), I like to mark it as the beginning of fall TV premieres. The days are starting to get shorter, which means the amount of time spent outdoors decreases and the amount spent indoors increases. While it’s nice to journal, play a game, or read a book in the evenings – I enjoy curling up and watching a good TV show after a long day.
Every year around this time I like to check out what is returning, mourn for the shows that didn’t get renewed, and set my dvr for the much-anticipated new shows for the season. I’ve combed through the fall premiere options for this year and found five promising shows – three premiere over the next couple months and the other two are set to premiere mid-season in 2017. Yay! I can’t wait!
The Good Place || NBC – September 19
“The Good Place is a smart, unique new comedy about what makes a good person. The show follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife and, thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place, which is definitely where she belongs. While hiding in plain sight from Michael (Ted Danson), the wise architect of the Good Place (who doesn’t know he’s made a mistake), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and discover the awesome (or, at least, the pretty good) person within.” – NBC

This Is Us || NBC – September 20
“Sometimes life will surprise you. This Is Us starring Mandy Moore , Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown, is a refreshingly honest and provocative series following a unique ensemble. As their paths cross and their life stories intertwine in curious ways, we find that several of them share the same birthday and so much more than anyone would expect. From the writer and directors of “Crazy, Stupid, Love” comes a smart, modern dramedy that will challenge your everyday presumptions about the people you think you know.” – NBC

Pure Genius || CBS – October 27
“A unique medical drama centered around a young Silicon Valley tech billionaire who builds the ultimate cutting-edge hospital that treats only the most rare and insurmountable medical mysteries—at no cost. Lending credibility to this new venture is a maverick surgeon who’s the first to discover that his boss’s mission is to get bureaucracy out of medicine, use the most forward thinkers in technology, and just save lives—including his own. Starring: Dermot Mulroney, Augustus Prew and Odette Annable.” -CBS

Making History || FOX – Coming 2017
“The new comedy Making History follows three friends from two different centuries as they try to balance the thrill of time travel with the mundane concerns of their present-day lives. Two shows in one, it’s both a rollicking historical adventure, and a contemporary comedy about love, friendship and trying to fit in to an increasingly complex and impersonal world. Dan Chambers, a computer science professor at a small Massachusetts college, recently discovered time travel and has been transporting himself back to the 1700s to spend time with the colonial woman he’s fallen for. Also starring Leighton Meester” – Fox

Still Star Crossed || ABC – Coming 2017
“A period drama from Shondaland, picks up where the famous story of Romeo and Juliet ends, charting the treachery, palace intrigue and ill-fated romances of the Montagues and Capulets in the wake of the young lovers’ tragic fate. The series is based on the book by Melinda Taub.” – ABC
