Sinking nose deep in a nice warm bath is one of my favorite things to do. Unfortunately, I do not have a soaking tub (insert long sad face here). Making a homemade luxurious bath scrub is a great alternative and when used in the shower, creates a spa like atmosphere. I love the sweet, relaxing, floral scent of lavender so I whipped up a lavender salt scrub that I am sharing with you today.
This scrub uses minimal ingredients, many of which you already have in your cabinet and takes only 5 minutes to make.
Sea Salt
The base of this exfoliating scrub is sea salt. Sea salt is derived from evaporated seawater and is full of minerals beneficial to the skin. These minerals help remove bacteria from the skin and improve circulation, giving your skin a natural glow. Coarse sea salt sloughs away dead skin cells promoting the growth of new healthy cells. These new cells tighten skin for a younger-looking appearance.
French Blue Lavender
French lavender is a wild plant that produces a sweet, floral aroma with the hint of mint and citrus. The word lavender is derived from the Latin botanical word ‘lavare’ which means to wash. Fitting right? The essential oils of lavender promote calmness as well as reducing stress, anxiety, and mild pain.
What You Need
- ½ cup Coarse Sea Salt (Epsom salts work great too)
- Lavender Essential Oil
- ¼ cup Olive Oil (almond, rose hip, or grape seed oil can be used)
- 1 ½ tsp Dried Lavender Buds
- Mixing Bowl
- Spoon
- 8 oz. Storage Jar
Step One. Combine ½ cup of coarse sea salt and 1 ½ tsp dried lavender buds in a mixing bowl.
Step Two. Add ¼ cup olive oil and 4-5 drops of essential lavender oil (more or less depending on your preference) to salt and lavender bud mixture.
Gently combine all ingredients together.
Step 3. Spoon scrub in to a jar with a tight fitting lid and place in shower.
(or bath if you are so lucky to have one)
How to Use
Use the scrub in a warm steamy shower to exfoliate your skin. When exfoliating use gentle circular motions to rub away dead skin cells. Dead skin cells make your skin look dry and flaky; exfoliation reveals the moisturized, shiny skin underneath. The exfoliation process leads to skin regeneration reducing skin discoloration, evening skin tone, and improves skin texture.
I love using this scrub at night before bed, the lavender produces a calming aroma to help relax and lull me to sleep. This scrub also makes an easy and personal gift for friends and family. These handmade with love printable gift tags would look adorable tied with simple bakers twine around the jar.
Enjoy your new glow friends!
xoxo
