A few years ago my husband and I were in Prospect Park watching the New York Symphony and our dog Alba ran off once the unknown firework show started [we now refer to this day as ‘the day we don’t mention’]. We both ran after her, but quickly lost sight of her. In the middle of a sea of people I frantically shouted and searched for her. One girl stopped me and asked who I was searching for, gathered her friends and started looking for my dog as well.
Years later this act of kindness has stuck with me. She didn’t know me, she didn’t need to help with our search, and she didn’t have to check in later asking if we had found her [we had]. That random girl owed me nothing, yet she chose to show kindness to a stranger.
At the time of our search, her act of kindness brought me hope. Now thinking back on ‘the day that we don’t mention’, her kindness brightens the story because she is proof that there is good in this world. We hear numerous heroic stories of people helping others, but we don’t need to be in extreme situations to show that another person matters.
People respond well to a person that is warm and supportive. Performing one small act of kindness or encouragement can brighten someone’s day – it will make you feel happier too =) Being kind does not mean you have to sacrifice all your time or money. Show love to others by incorporating caring gestures into your everyday life.

I think sometimes people don’t realize how much impact a small kind gesture can make, especially from a complete stranger. I’m getting ready to send out some care packages this week.
I so agree Sara! A simple act can mean so much to someone. Love the care package idea! What a great way to spread love =)
